Some journeys stay with you long after the ride ends. For Rtn. Zbigniew Nagay of the Rotary Club of Szczecin, Poland, four years of participating in Ride for Rotary have been about much more than riding through India. They have been about friendships, fellowship, discovery — and finding new ways to serve together.
One such friendship has now found its way to Sullia, Karnataka, through Global Grant GG2682543.
Supported through Nagay’s home club, Rotary Club of Szczecin, the project has brought advanced ophthalmology equipment to Government Hospital, Sullia, with a total grant value of US$35,303.
The initiative is focused on a simple but important goal: bringing better eye-care services closer to rural communities. By strengthening the hospital’s ophthalmology capabilities and supporting field-based eye camps, the project aims to improve access to quality eye-care services for people in Sullia and surrounding communities.

Bringing Advanced Eye Care to Sullia
Two important pieces of equipment have now been installed at Government Hospital, Sullia: a YAG laser and an ophthalmic ultrasound scanner.
YAG Laser
Advanced ophthalmic equipment that supports specialised eye-care procedures and strengthens the hospital’s ability to provide essential treatment locally.
Ophthalmic Ultrasound Scanner
A diagnostic imaging system that helps ophthalmologists assess eye conditions and support more comprehensive clinical evaluation.
A Partnership Built Across Borders
The project is a partnership between three important organisations:
The project agreement was signed on 29 May 2026, with Rtn. Zbigniew Nagay signing in his capacity as President of the Rotary Club of Szczecin.
When Fellowship Turns Into Service
For Ride for Rotary, this is what makes the story particularly special.
The road connected Poland and India. Friendship connected two Rotary clubs. And that friendship became service.
Nagay first came to India through Ride for Rotary — a journey created around riding, fellowship and cultural discovery. Over four years, those journeys created relationships that went beyond the road.
Today, one of those relationships has helped create something that will remain in the community long after the motorcycles have left.
It is a powerful reminder of what Rotary fellowship can become when friendships are nurtured and opportunities to serve are embraced.

From Szczecin to Sullia
The distance between Szczecin and Sullia may span thousands of kilometres, but Rotary has a way of making the world feel considerably smaller.
What began as a journey of exploration has evolved into a journey of impact — helping strengthen healthcare infrastructure and bringing better eye-care possibilities closer to communities that need them.
This is the spirit behind Ride for Rotary: travel that creates connections, connections that create friendships, and friendships that create opportunities to serve.
