Some journeys stay with you long after the ride ends. For Rtn. Zbigniew Nagay of the Rotary Club of Szczecin, Poland, four years of participating in Ride for Rotary have been about much more than riding through India. They have been about friendships, fellowship and discovering new ways to serve together.
One such friendship has now found its way to Sullia, Karnataka, through Global Grant GG2682543. Supported through Nagay’s home club, the Rotary Club of Szczecin, the project has brought advanced ophthalmology equipment to Government Hospital, Sullia, with a grant value of US$35,303. The project focuses on providing comprehensive eye care to rural communities in Sullia and improving access to quality ophthalmology services.
Today, two important pieces of equipment have been installed at the hospital — a YAG laser and an ophthalmic ultrasound scanner. The project is designed not simply to add equipment, but to strengthen eye-care services through institutional care and field-based eye camps, helping improve access for communities in and around Sullia.

The partnership brings together Rotary Club Sullia City as the Host Sponsor, Rotary Club of Szczecin as the International Sponsor, and Government Hospital, Sullia as the participating organisation. The project agreement was signed on 29 May 2026, with Nagay signing as President of Rotary Club of Szczecin.
For Ride for Rotary, this is what makes the story special. A rider who first came to India through a journey of fellowship has now helped create something that will remain in the community. The road connected Poland and India; friendship connected two Rotary clubs; and that friendship became service.
From Szczecin to Sullia, the journey continues — not on a motorcycle this time, but through a project that can help bring better eye care closer to rural communities.
Ride for Rotary — where every journey can lead to a lasting impact. 🏍️🌍🤝
